Frequently Asked Questions — Edy’s Wood Floors

At Edy’s Wood Floors, we specialize in:

  • Hardwood floor installation (solid and engineered)

  • Hardwood floor refinishing and resurfacing

  • Floor sanding and staining

  • Spot repairs and plank replacement

  • Custom stains and finish options

  • Maintenance, buffing, and recoat services

We service Houston and surrounding areas, including (but not limited to) Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Bellaire, Memorial, West University, and more.

Our team inspects the condition of floorboards, checks for structural or moisture damage, and assesses how much wood thickness remains. If the boards are intact and structur’t severely distorted, refinishing typically makes more sense. If there’s warping, deep gouges, or extensive damage, replacement may be recommended.

For installation, we:

  1. Prep the site (remove old flooring, debris, check moisture)

  2. Ensure the subfloor is level and stable

  3. Choose the appropriate installation method (nail-down, glue-down, floating)

  4. Fit, fasten, and finish the wood

  5. Apply protective sealants or finish coats

We work with a variety of hardwoods including oak, maple, walnut, exotic species, and reclaimed wood. We also handle engineered wood flooring specially designed to better resist humidity and moisture fluctuations.

Yes. When refinishing, you can refresh or change the stain color (natural, gray, espresso, custom blends). During installation, we also offer stained or unfinished boards as options depending on your preference.

We provide a set of high-performance sealants and topcoats, including:

  • Water-based finishes (low odor, fast curing)

  • Oil-modified finishes (richer tone, classic look)

  • Hard-wax oil or hybrid finish systems

  • Multiple sheen choices (matte, satin, semi-gloss, gloss)

We select finishes that perform well in Houston’s climate — resisting moisture, wear, and yellowing.

Timelines depend on area size, condition, stain/finish choices, and prep work required. In general:

  • Installation: often 1–3 days (for typical rooms)

  • Refinishing / sanding + staining: 1–3 days
We aim to minimize disruption and can provide a more precise schedule after assessing your space.

Yes, we offer dust-containment (often called dustless) sanding to reduce airborne dust and keep your home cleaner. This improves safety and helps protect your furniture and indoor air quality.

We recommend:

  • Use pH-neutral, non-abrasive cleaners

  • Avoid excessive water or steam mops

  • Use protective mats and felt pads under furniture

  • Control indoor humidity (ideally between ~35%–55%)

  • Periodically buff or recoat high-traffic areas before needing full refinishing

Yes. We stand behind our workmanship and offer warranty coverage for defects in installation or finish under normal use. Ask us for details specific to your project.

Key cost factors include square footage, condition of the existing floor, wood species, stain and finish types, required repairs or leveling, layout complexity, and access to the area.

We make every effort to minimize disruption. We can help move small furniture and protect fixed items. For best results, clearing rooms is highly recommended before work begins.

During your in-home evaluation, we:

  • Inspect your floors (including moisture, flatness, damage)

  • Discuss your vision for stains, finishes, and styles

  • Provide sample stain demos

  • Present a detailed proposal — cost, timeline, process

  • Answer your questions and explain options

We recommend doing major floor work when your HVAC is running regularly (so your interior humidity is stabilized). Avoid scheduling during extreme seasonal swings, but we can work year-round with the right preparation (moisture testing, acclimation, and environmental control).
